Accountability is much more important than we might think. How are we supposed to have a relationship with God if we can't be completely vulnerable around Him? And how can we expect ourselves to be accountable with our peers if we can't be accountable with God? It's all a spiral that comes back to the importance of accountability.
Verses about accountability:
○ Hebrews 4:13 says, "And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account."
○ Romans 14:12 says, "So then each of us will give an account of himself to God."
○ James 5:16 says, "Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working."
○ 1 Thessalonians 5:11 says, "Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing."
○ Proverbs 27:17 says, "Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another."
Why are these verses important?
These verses talk about both being accountable with God and being accountable with others. Let's break each of them down. Having accountability with God is so important because it is the only way that we can have a real relationship with Him. Being accountable with our peers is important because when we are open and honest with others, it can lead to many new possibilities, and it can also help you grow with others in Christ. If you don't take responsibility for your actions and sins, it's almost as if you're saying that you're not a sinner, but that's impossible because the only person who has ever been perfect is Jesus. You have to realize that no one, not God nor your peers, expects you to be faultless. So it's pointless to try to mask your sins with lies. Although it may not seem like it, being accountable will always work out better for you than running from your past. In the end, it's important to be real with God rather than try to fool him into seeing you as someone you're not.
